Death by Chocolate

This is not actually a recipe of Mother's. This is a recipe I make often for family gatherings or when a dessert is called for and it usually turns out to be a BIG hit for chocolate lovers. Hershey's chocolate syrup can be substituted for Kahlua if you wish. This is VERY RICH!!!

Death by Chocolate:

2 Family size brownie mixes (I usually get the Triple Chococlate or Chocolate Chunk)

1/4 - 1/2 cup Kahlua (I NEVER measure this...I just pour some over the hot brownies)

3 boxes Jello Chocolate Mousse (instant)

8 Heath bars, crushed

Large Cool Whip

Bake brownies according to the directions. While brownies are still hot, punch holes throughout the brownies using a fork or the end of a wooden spoon. Drizzle the Kahlua/Chocolate Syrup over hot brownies. Let cool completely. Mix chocolate mousse according to the directions. Once brownies have cooled, crumble half of them into the bottom of a trifle bowl. (Depending on how much Kahlua or syrup you use, they may not crumble so much, but may be "gooey" spoonfuls.) Spread half the chocolate mousse on top of the crumbled brownies. Spread half the Cool Whip on top of the chocolate mousse. Sprinkle half of the crushed Heath bars on top of the Cool Whip. Repeat layers. Refrigerate a couple of hours before serving.
